  • After years of working for a wide range of agricultural companies, I am now an expert in product commercialisation, analogous to the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge.

  • In the early 1930s, there was a clear need to connect the Bay Area. However, this stretch of water was considered one of the most dangerous, making the task seem impossible. The solution was to begin construction from both ends and work towards the middle. The challenge was to ensure that the two sections met precisely and in the shortest time possible.

 

  • From experience, most commercialisation projects are similar. On one side, the founders/inventors who lack experience in how to go to markets, and on the other side, a good sales team but with no experience in product registration or company setup. This disconnect delays time to sales, resulting in excessive cash burn, an underutilised sales team and a reduction in product credibility because it is delayed. I have witnessed slow revenue progress by recruiting all-rounders rather than dedicated sales professionals, and no traction with key distributors.

 

  • Our aim, especially with start-ups or companies transitioning into new territories, is to provide the commercialisation skills, clearly define the countries and markets, allowing more time to source the best sales team.
